Fees and selling policy

Selling is free. Buyers pay a 5% marketplace fee, and it’s already in the prices they see.

Rates and sources

Standard rates checked October 4, 2026, for one $100 item with one listing fee where it applies. Services and sales channels differ, so this compares selling fees only.

  • Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, plus 3% and $0.25 US payment processing, plus a $0.20 listing fee. Offsite Ads can add 12% or 15% on attributed orders. Fee policy · Payment rates
  • Gumroad: 30% when a new customer finds and buys through Discover. Direct-link sales have different rates. Pricing
  • Saatchi Art: 40% commission on original artwork. Prints have different terms. Commission policy

These figures leave out taxes, shipping, packaging, advertising, optional plans, setup fees, extra listing renewals, refunds, and bank, payout or currency conversion charges. Rates can vary by location, payment method and seller agreement. When sales open, Handfair pays processing and payout costs out of its buyer marketplace fee.

What buyers pay

The marketplace fee is 5% of the item subtotal after discounts, rounded to the nearest cent. It’s included in the prices buyers see. Before paying, buyers see the item subtotal, fee, shipping, any tax and the total as separate lines.

If a maker prices an item at $100, buyers see $105, which includes the $5 marketplace fee. Shipping and tax come on top. The maker receives the full $100 item subtotal.

No seller fees

Listing, selling and the seller tools are free, and there are no seller subscriptions. Makers receive 100% of their item subtotal, before their own costs and any refunds.

Handfair pays for payment processing and payouts out of the buyer fee. Those costs don’t come out of the maker’s share.

Tax and shipping

Tax and shipping are separate from the item price that the fee is calculated on.

Makers choose where they ship, what they charge and how long they need to prepare an order. They pack their own items, buy their own postage and arrange delivery. Shipping charges go to the maker. Handfair doesn’t pack or ship orders.

Refunded sales

A completed full refund returns everything the buyer paid, including the marketplace fee. A partial refund returns the confirmed amount shown on the order. Refunds and transfer adjustments confirmed by the payment provider are recorded in the order and finance history.

A partial refund doesn’t automatically say how the amount is split between items, shipping, tax and the marketplace fee. Each order keeps the fee terms recorded when it was placed, and this policy doesn’t recalculate past purchases.

Optional advertising

Makers can choose to promote a published product or shop. Advertising is a separate, optional purchase. It doesn’t change the buyer fee or what the maker receives for an item.

Each promotion has a fixed prepaid total and length, and it never renews automatically. Ads rotate through labeled spots on the home page, and a higher daily rate gets more weight in that rotation. Views, clicks and sales aren’t guaranteed.

A campaign starts once its payment is confirmed. Pausing hides the ad but doesn’t extend its end date. Unavailable products and unpublished shops aren’t shown. For help with advertising billing or refunds, email support@creativescreative.com.
